Why I dance!
Jo was born to dance. Initially drawn to the sensuality of the movements in bellydance, she joined Claire Morgan's raqs sharqi class five years ago. Here she met Sam. The two of them hit it off immediately and have been dancing together ever since as a duo or as part of a group. When dancing as a duo in Imajica, people have often commented on the connection they have as dancers which adds to the power of their performances together. I always loved dancing and wanted to do some exercise which would be fun and involved learning something new. I was interested in bellydance because it's sexy! Also, as an advocate of natural birth, I was interested in the theory that the movements in bellydance are useful in labour. When I started dancing I loved it straight away and showed a natural aptitude for it. The rest is history!
Mneme is Jo's stage name, taken from Greek Mythology Mneme is the Muse of memory... . Jo felt it was appropriate as she has always had a good memory and her ability to learn and recall choreography adds greatly to her confidence as a dancer.
My dance Training...
Over the years, Jo has added to her natural aptitude for dance with plenty of hard work and study. As well as benefitting from the one-to-one tuition of Horizon, she has had the oppertunity to learn from renowned international performers such as Amy Sigil, Rose Harden, Samantha Riggs and 'The Unsinkable' Molly Mitchell. She has also enjoyed the teaching of talented British dancers such as 'Darkstar', Philippa and Jesse of Morai, Pauline Quereshi, Tasmin Leona Bex and many others. Jo believes that 'variety is the spice of life' when it comes to dance and loves experimenting with different styles. She has regularly had the chance to share her own love of dance when assisting Horizon in workshops and in class.
Choreography...
After dabbling a little in creating her own choreographies Jo plans to do more in the future but her main passion is to learn and perform Sam's fantastic choreographies. As her name suggests Jo has a good memory. Her ability to learn routines makes her a strong and confident dancer. She has been described by others as a beautiful and expressive performer.
My favourite dancer and why...

If I could choose only one it would have to be Amy Sigil because everything Unmata do is amazing! Can't get enough of that sassy street style!
However, also high on the list is The Unsinkable Molly Mitchell because of her contemporary look and style and her incredible stage presence. Argh! There's just so many...Morgana, Anasma...I'd have to add Bex Priest while we're on the subject of stage presence and Tasmin Leona Bex is also fantastic. The list goes on and on!
